Sharon Shannon returns with ‘RENEGADE’ her first studio album since 2003. Joining her at the core of this project are Michael McGoldrick of Fused and Capercaillie on flute and whistles and his Mancunian fiddle player partner Dezi Donnelly. Completing the quartet is Sharon’s longtime guitarist Jim Murray.

The album, which mainly features new original material by the quartet, is a heady mix of traditional Irish with hip-hop beats, ragga, jazz and world inflections. Also joining in the fun are Justin Adams (Tinariwen producer and Robert Plant guitarist) John Reynolds (Sinead O’Connor, Indigo Girls), 2Play, Roachie, saxman Richie Buckley (Van Morrison) and Donald Shaw (Capercaillie) to mention a few.

Shannon, who grew up steeped in traditional music, has always been a renegade and has forsaken the rigidity of the tradition for the more appealing aspects of country, bluegrass, Reggae, blues and Jazz. She first came to prominence with The Waterboys in 1989 and since has toured and recorded with Sinead O’Connor, Nigel Kennedy, Bono, Jackson Browne and Belinda Carlisle.

· 1992 - her first solo album, Sharon Shannon, featuring Mike Scott and Adam Clayton (U2) made her a household name in Ireland

· 1993 – A Woman’s Heart album, featuring Sharon along with Mary Black, Maura O’Connell and others sold a staggering 500,000 units. The subsequent UK tour established Shannon as a major artiste

· 1994 - Out The Gap, the next album recorded in Brixton and produced by legendary dubmaster Dennis Bovell and featuring a host of reggae musicians broke more musical boundaries

· 2000 – The Diamond Mountain Sessions took a more country route and she was joined by Jackson Browne, Steve Earle & John Prine

· 2003 - Libertango featured a collaboration with Kirsty McColl on the Astor Piazzola/Grace Jones track Libertango

· 2005 - The Sharon Shannon Collection achieved double platinum status in Ireland, debuting at Number 2 in the album charts

· 2006 - The DVD Live at Dolans spent a staggering 17 weeks in the Top Ten DVD charts....7 of these at Number 1. It beat U2 to the top position and is now heading for 4 times platinum status. Her duet with Mundy, Galway Girl, has been in the top 50 Irish downloads for the past year

· Sharon has become an accomplished arranger and producer and has also been instrumental in getting one of Ireland’s foremost talents, Declan O’Rourke, a record deal
